Born and raised in rural Tennessee, I developed a love of horses at a very early age. I was always drawn to them and found a sense of peace when around them. I spent as much time as I could playing in the barn, riding my horse, and exploring the land while letting my imagination run wild. As I grew older, l also found that I loved psychology and learning about people. This spurred by journey into psychology.
The journey to mental healthcare
I've always known that I wanted to work in a helping profession. My journey started out with a psychology major in undergraduate school, but during that time, I also started working in law enforcement. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in forensic psychology. Though parts of police work were rewarding, I also saw a lot of darkness, and I saw sides of humanity that I had never seen before. These experiences were tough, but through them, I also saw the vast need that existed for counseling. I saw how badly the survivors and first responders needed someone to be able to listen, understand, and help them navigate the confusing effects of trauma. Those realizations inspired my journey into becoming a therapist and choosing to specialize in trauma treatment. When I learned about Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and the benefits it offered, I knew it was something I wanted to offer.
Learning about EMDR was also a game-changer. I Immediately began researching it and looking into its efficacy. It didn't take long before the evidence was clear, EMDR was a must for trauma treatment. In the years since I was first trained in it, I've seen the profound healing it offers and I've sought out advanced training that take it to an even deeper level, incorporating Attachment Theory and Internal Family Systems into the process.
Since beginning my journey as a therapist, I've learned so much but every day I feel so grateful to be able to do this work and to be a part of the healing journey for my clients.
We hope to see you soon!
